September 21 2019 Competition Launch Report

On Saturday September 21, 2019 the Cambridge Rocket Club hosted it’s eleventh launch of the season. The flying conditions at the Mohawk Launch Site were absolutely ideal for flying. The air temperature was in the high twenties and the South West winds were very calm at about ten kilometers an hour under bright blue skies. A total of 12 CRC members and one guest participated, launching a total of 76 model rockets, 1 boost glider and 2 radio controlled rocket gliders. We also had a scale model of a North Korean missile launched. By the end of the day we managed to burn eighty six model rocket engines with a combined impulse of 3,382 Newtons.

We were very pleased to host our first competition, an A.8-3 Parachute Spot Landing contest. This was the first model rocket competition for most and ten members gave it a try. It was a lot of fun to watch as each competitor was provided two (2) A.8-3 model rocket engines and we flew in two rounds. It was interesting to watch some of our more experienced members flying with the low power A.8-3 model rocket engines, especially one senior member infamous for entertaining us with his “G” powered rockets. The winner of the competition landed his model 9′ – 0″ from the target flag. His son was a close second landing only 24′ – 0″ away. Thanks to the gracious withdrawal from the competition by the overall winner, his son claimed first prize which include a $25. Gift Certificate and automatic CRC membership renewal for 2020. This promoted second and third place winners whom also received $25. Gift Certificates. I would like to thank the Canadian Rocket Store for donating the gift certificates for this competition.

Our next scheduled launch is on Saturday October 12th. Hope to see as many of you as possible as our 2019 model rocket season is winding down.
